A juicy turkey patty layered with creamy avocado and Swiss cheese on toasted buns.

# What You'll Need:

→ Turkey Patties

01 - 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean recommended)
02 - 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
03 - 1 large egg
04 - 2 tbsp finely chopped red onion
05 - 1 garlic clove, minced
06 - 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
07 - 1/2 tsp salt
08 - 1/4 tsp black pepper

→ Toppings

09 - 4 slices Swiss cheese
10 - 1 large avocado, sliced
11 - 1 medium tomato, sliced
12 - 4 lettuce leaves

→ For Serving

13 - 4 burger buns, split and toasted
14 - 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
15 - 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)

# Directions:

01 - Combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, red onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix gently until just incorporated, taking care not to overwork the meat.
02 - Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties approximately 1/2 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
03 - Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the cooking surface to prevent sticking.
04 - Place patties on the preheated surface and cook for 5-6 minutes per side. Cook until fully cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F.
05 - During the final minute of cooking, place a Swiss cheese slice on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet to allow the cheese to melt completely.
06 - Toast the split burger buns cut side down until golden brown and lightly crisped.
07 - Spread mayonnaise and/or Dijon mustard on the toasted bun halves, if desired.
08 - Layer each burger by placing lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by the cheesy turkey patty, avocado slices, and tomato. Top with the remaining bun half.
09 - Serve the assembled burgers immediately while the patties are hot and the cheese is melted.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The Swiss cheese melts into a velvety blanket that keeps every bite incredibly moist
  • Turkey absorbs flavors so well that each patty tastes like it has been marinating for hours
  • You can throw these together in under thirty minutes on a busy weeknight
02 -
  • Turkey burgers need to rest for a couple minutes after cooking or all those juices will run out onto your plate
  • Do not skip the meat thermometer because turkey can stay pink even when fully cooked
  • The indentation trick really does work to keep them from turning into balls while cooking
03 -
  • Grate a little garlic directly into the meat mixture instead of mincing for better distribution
  • Let the avocado reach perfect ripeness where it yields slightly to gentle pressure
  • Butter the inside of your buns before toasting for extra richness
